The Value of Hard Work Across Two Industries: Growing Up Around
Trucking and Working at a
Fire Suppression Company

by Brittyn Fordham, CBA

Growing up around a trucking company and working in a fire suppression company has given me a unique perspective on two industries that require dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic. Although I do not personally run a trucking company, I have had the opportunity to watch my dad and brother build and manage one from the ground up. Seeing the company grow from its pilot stages to where it is today has taught me valuable lessons about responsibility, sacrifice, and perseverance.

The trucking industry faces daily challenges such as fuel costs, maintenance, scheduling, regulations, and driver shortages. By watching my family navigate these obstacles, I have learned that running a successful company requires more than transportation knowledge. It also demands patience, effective communication, and the ability to adapt in tricky situations. I have seen firsthand the long hours, and commitment needed to keep operations running smoothly and maintain strong relationships with customers and employees.

At the same time, working in a fire suppression company has shown me the importance of safety and mindfulness. Fire suppression companies play a critical role in protecting lives and property, which requires ongoing training, professionalism, and accountability. The industry is constantly evolving, making continuous learning essential for success.

Although trucking and fire suppression are different fields, they share core values such as teamwork, reliability, and leadership. Watching my family grow a trucking company while working in fire suppression has shaped my understanding of business, hard work, and the value of taking pride in what you do.
