ICEL Recap: 3 Goal Setting Strategies for the Modern Era
By Connie Johnson, CBF, Cabinetry by Karman
The members who attended September's ICEL meeting were very lucky to hear from Michael Marcial, a world traveling entrepreneur, speaker, and mentor. The topic was 3 Goal Setting Strategies for the Modern Era.
Michael started by giving a little background on himself. He grew up in Chicago in a family with a single parent. He didn't have a lot of opportunity growing up but knew he was meant to do something bigger. His #1 goal was to help people. He excelled at taking complex issues and breaking them down in a way that others could understand.
His goal setting strategy:
1) Clarity of Goals
2 ) Why
3 ) Take action
To gain clarity for your goal keep asking why. Dig deep. He used the example of, "I want to buy a house." Why? "So that I have a place to live." Why? Etc. Go as deep as you can. Eventually you'll hit a wall to what is most important. Visualize obstacles so you can prepare for them.Michael also spoke about being tethered to what you don't want. Meaning (I believe) to focus forward on your goal, the why, and what steps you need to take to get there. Focusing on what you do want helps keep you from being tethered to what you don't want.
Understanding your goal (clarity) and the reason(s) you want the achieve the goal (why) will help keep you on track to succeed, but nothing happens with any goal until you take action.
Must take action. Refocus, repeat.
