ICEL Recap: Test Your Credit Knowledge
By Keeley Worley, CCE, Nicholas & Company
The exciting and intense annual Test Your Credit Knowledge (aka Credit Jeopardy) took place at ICEL in the month of July. Host Stephanie Johnson did a fabulous job keeping the contestants on their toes and laughing at her break time jokes. Lisa Keller and Georgette Bevan provided their credit expertise as judges and timekeepers. Categories for Credit Jeopardy include Business Law, Finance Statement Analysis, Principles of Business Credit, Credit Law, and Accounting.
Competition was fierce as tables strived to steal unanswered questions and gain points. Panic set in as many tables were faced with tough answers to provide the questions to. In the end table 5 racked up the most points and won the 1st place prize. There was candy and other prizes offered as well for answering questions and placing 2nd and 3rd place overall. Nothing like winning those awesome NACM socks!
A lucky member of ICEL also won a $200 Amazon gift card.
This is one of the most fun and interactive ICEL meeting to take place during the year and is always a great one to bring additional guests to. It provides a refresher on some core principles of credit, like the 5 C's of credit, warning signs to struggling accounts, bankruptcy and accounting principles. It is always surprising some of the things that you know and some of the practices that you have forgotten when not used all the time. It is awesome that ICEL helps to keep these things in our minds year after year in a fun and exciting way.
Knowledge helps ICEL members to protect our companies and their bottom line; it is the best insurance for both accounts receivable and your career. Start studying now for next year's Credit Jeopardy and enlist yourself or your employees in courses offered by NACM!
