Today's Article is Brought to You by the Letter V
By April Tanner, CCE, Kimball Equipment Company
To many of you that phrase was a blast from the past. Sesame Street broadcast for the first time when I was a year old and I learned a lot from Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers and The Electric Company. Public television was a staple at our house. I digress, back to the letter V. There is so much I want to say about a few words that start with the letter V.
VOTE - I will spell it. V-O-T-E (you can picture the Village People spelling it out with their arms, can't you?)
This month is THE month you need to vote for your new board members. You, the member has the privilege of being a part of this lovely member owned organization. Ballots go out via email to the member of record on April 1st-please take advantage of that privilege and VOTE today. If you don't have time right now, put a reminder in your cell phone - right now - to do it when you do have time in the next few days. It will take less than 10 minutes to read the bios of the members who are running for the board and then place your vote. It may take even less time if you read fast. PLEASE VOTE TODAY - IT MATTERS!
VOLUNTEER - this is also the time of year (Spring) when NACM and ICEL are looking for volunteers from our members for committees. Being on a committee takes very little time and is incredibly rewarding and important. NACM has committees to help design education seminars and the entertainment committee to plan member events just to name a couple. ICEL looks for members to help in a few areas: Membership, Education, Publication, and Programs. The average time spent volunteering is about 1/2 hour per month at the most. We would love to have you join us. You have skills and knowledge we need and value. Best of all I have met the most wonderful friends when I have volunteered. Call Lisa at NACM or me if you are interested. I think I have served on almost every committee at some point in the 30 plus years I have been a member and would and will do it again.
VOICE - your voice - your opinions as a member matter. Please let us know what you think. NACM is a member owned association and ICEL is a member run organization. YOU are the member. Engage with us in person, by phone, or email. The NACM Intermountain website has the contact information for all employees of our NACM affiliate including our President, Georgette Bevan. I know from my interactions with Georgette that if you contact her, she will reply. You can also reach out to any or all board members. The NACM website also has the contact information for your ICEL leadership so you can reach out to any one or all of us. If you have a question or comment, we are here for you. I know you are not surprised, but I have long voiced opinions to both NACM and ICEL leaders and will continue to do so.
VALUE - the value of your membership is greatly enhanced by the three V words above. Vote, Voice and Volunteer. Please take a moment this month to do all three. First, take a moment today to Vote. Then later this week send a quick email to Lisa at NACM or ICEL and volunteer to help or leave a comment.
This is my last article as Chairman of ICEL - it has been my pleasure to serve for and with you. I love my friends at ICEL and treasure you. I would not be the credit manager I am today without all of you. Thanks for always being there for me when I have called you for help. I also know that Stephanie will do a stellar job as Chairman of ICEL and look forward to reading her monthly articles.
See you at the banquet everyone!
